About us

Kaufman Capital Partners (KCP), formerly Kaufman Realty Group, was founded in 1994 by Craig Kaufman. Our collaborative approach bridges entrepreneurial agility with institutional discipline.

KCP’s principals have experience in all stages of the real estate value creation process – from identifying the opportunity, conceptualizing the business plan, analysis/due diligence, to the execution and capitalization of acquisition, development, management and exit.

KCP functions in different roles depending on opportunity and need, from financial partner to developer. Collaboration and aligning interests are what we do.

History of the company

Craig Kaufman moved to Atlanta in 1994 and founded Kaufman Realty Group as a real estate investment company. The company has evolved through a variety of strategic iterations as the market and growth opportunities have changed through different cycles. Kaufman’s first few investments were in single family residential, retail, and older multifamily apartments.

Next, the company worked a business plan centered around a then underserved aspect of the office market – the small tenant. The business plan utilized lessons learned from apartments where floor plans were “right sized” and “built out spec” to minimize future capital costs associated with re-tenanting.

For the next 10 years, Kaufman focused on the acquisition, development and management of office properties in a variety of markets in the southern U.S. and as far west as Denver. During 2006 to 2007, Kaufman was the net seller of assets as it harvested returns during the peak of the real estate cycle. Kaufman made a major strategy decision after the Great Recession upon changes in mobile technology which increased productivity and changed corporate office utilization. Kaufman associates noticed how going from a blackberry to a smartphone enabled one to be less tethered to their desks.

Around 2011, Kaufman shifted from being an operating business focused on office properties to a collaborative structure focused on value creation related to where people lived, rather than worked. Specifically multi-family and other residential, along with land centered location opportunities, often improved with economically or functional obsolete properties. Kaufman rebranded and changed its outward name to Kaufman Capital Partners. By aligning objectives, we align interests with our stakeholders, our partners, our investors, and the local community.
